I have a 1996 320E Mercedes station wagon and lately It is having trouble

What is your question?

idling....Sometimes when it starts, the tack holds steady and it moves forward when put into gear....other times the tack is all over the place and if you put it in gear, it dies....Any suggestions besides buy a new car?
