why is my bass cutting on and off?

Sometimes it is totally random, the bass will just cut in and out. its mostly out. sometimes i hit the door by the speaker and that speaker will cut on, other times i hit a bump in the road and it will cut on. also, the bass is more likely to cut on when i first turn on the car and cut off soon after.
