My check engine light just went on today. My car has 55000 miles and looks and runs great! Any idea as to why the CEL?

it maybe a simple maintenance check light that comes on at 50000 miles or so you can visit your local auto zone if you have one they will do a diagnostic check FREE takes about 5min. thats what i do when my check eng. light comes on,these guys are great...ps..light must still be on..
