Had tps put in and still shows trouble code plus 50% acceleration and hesition

Hello, what was the purpose of installing this sensor? What testing was performed to determine that this sensor should be replaced? It sounds like maybe it was a guess based off of some trouble code that really require diagnostic testing instead of replacing parts by a guess.
