Hello, it sounds like a very unfortunate situation. Sunroofs are basically a glass that is attached to a motor that are attached to a track and gear system that is largely plastic with some metal which can become warped and can have debris cause problems as well. Tracks or links to the track fracture and then - it's all bad. It warrants a physical inspection, but I can say the best you may be able to hope for with a 13 year old vehicle like this is to get the glass closed and secure.
