What is your question?
Replaced the TCM on my 2010 Mazda 3. It now will not pass the CA. emissions test. The car was purchased in AZ. Do I need to have the software updated at a Mazda dealership? CEL has been on since the TCM was replaced 2 1/2 years ago.
What makes this problem better or worse?
No other issues with cars performance

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like your Mazda 3 is in the midst of a classic "emissions test drama," with a subplot involving a recalled part. If your car isn't passing the emissions test and there was a recall related to this, it's worth checking if your vehicle was affected. Start by contacting Mazda’s customer service or checking their recall database online. You’ll need your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to see if your car was part of the recall and whether it was addressed. Even though the recall might be closed, they might still offer solutions for unresolved issues. Given the CEL (Check Engine Light) has been on since the TCM replacement, it's possible that a software update is needed to align everything with the emissions system. Visiting a Mazda dealership for a diagnostic and software update would be a good step. They can also check if any issues from the recall might still be affecting your vehicle.
