What is your question?
Randomly after cleaning the engine bay with a rag and some water, it’s got a solid and flashing check engine light and now it idles really rough.
What makes this problem better or worse?
When it’s idling at a light or in general, after a while of driving it’s got a real bad smell
How long has your 2000 Lincoln Town Car had this problem?
A few days

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. First, I would never recommend introducing water into the engine compartment. There is too much risk for causing things just like this. I suspect you got water into the holes of the coils which has resulted in a misfire at the spark plug, where it meets the coil in one or more of the cylinders. I would recommend replacing the rubber boots for each of the eight coils while cleaning up any water in the cavities where the coils go. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link to find some shops near you who can help out!
