The guage is all there, but the needle never moves off the cold start position.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Constant. Needle on gauge never moves.

Well, it could be that the engine never gets to normal operating temperature, such as with a thermostat that is stuck in the open position. This can create all kinds of other problems also -- so definitely check to see what the genuine actual temperature of the engine coolant is. This can be done by using a temperature gun to measure the coolant temperature, for one thing. Alternatively, there could be a wiring issue or a sending unit issue.
