Why is there a slight burning smell whenever I go fast? Is this common/harmless?

Sometimes a plastic bag could get trapped on hot exhaust and burn on - and may take some time to fully melt off and dissipate. Otherwise, most burning smells would come from fluid leaks touching hot engine or exhaust components.
