What is your question?
Truth is I'm no mechanic but I want to get into owning a classic land rover. This has always been my dream car and I am trying to make it happen. Wondering if this is a good deal or if I should move on. I found a 1995 Classic short wheelbase for 3K, 160000 miles. Runs good. Passed CA smog and has a clean title. Recently received full tune up, water pump and fan clutch. Front seats need to be recovered and AC doesn't work. believe the issue is the AC switch in the dash. I want to repaint it but maybe it would be cheaper to get one already in good shape?

Hello, I will venture to guess you will have a hard time finding one with good paint in that price range, but if you consider the 3-5k you will spend on a quality paint job, you will see where that lands you in price range. Land Rover and Jaguar are notorious for electrical issues, and you will have them. Parts are expensive. I used to scrap Land Rovers when I was in high school and I couldn't tear them down fast enough to keep up with demand for used parts. To quiet these concerns, many have chosen to go with domestic drivetrain components and do away with as many English components as possible. In either case, it's up to you, but if you want to have a hobby vehicle that does not eat your budget, this is not it.
I agree ... Frankly, considering the nature of these vehicles - Suspect it's going to be a money pit! .. To own this vehicle - you need to be pretty handy with a wrench at the least.. OR just have deep pockets. Good luck with it!
