I put in a new battery and the battery light stays on. Checked the alternator and it is sending over 13 volts to the battery.

13 volts is likely not enough. The system needs to be tested under load to properly gauge the output potential of the alternator. Was the light on before installing the battery?
Should be 13.5 to 14.7 to properly charge. When light is on it usually means a possible diode is bad, or the proper one for the year model and engine has not been installed. Some people purchase the least expensive alternator and expect it to built as good as a more expensive one, therefore we get what we pay for.
A little lost. I replaced the battery...not the alternator. The alternator is charging at a little over 13.5 volts to the battery but light still on.
It's an alternator issue. It will charge ok but it probably has a bad diode.
Will a bad alternator diode end up leaving broke down on the side of the road? Is it an urgent fix?
13.5 is probably still a bit low. The light is controlled by the ECM. Are there any other lights on? Could be a CAN problem arising from the battery replacement itself and it may require codes be cleared. Rover has always been rather quirky when it comes to electronics. I have not run into this specific concern arising from simply replacing the battery, but strange things can and do happen. Again, as stated before, testing the alternator under load, reviewing the codes, seeing what the ECM is seeing for voltage would be the next steps.

No...I took it back to have the new battery test because of the light. They said alternator as well.....but then came back and said it was charging,
14.0 volts , tell um ,u want another alt, 13..o is not enough ,when u use accessorys its going to go down .turn everything on ,watch it drain.. No good . I had a car in shop ,I change of 3 times before it was rite ,they were USA alt . I told the part store give me another brand before I throw these Out the window ...
