Hi, this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! While it seems unusual for both rear shocks to fail simultaneously without notice, they've been traveling the roads for quite a while together. There's no hard rule on how long components like shocks, brakes, tires, etc., last, there are just too many variables to consider. Potential causes could be as simple as wear and tear, improper installation, or possibly manufacturing defects. I would recommend having a qualified technician inspect the shocks and the suspension system to determine the exact cause and to ensure proper repair or replacement.
