My timing belt snapped and I am trying to figure out if the motor is interference or not?

Sorry to break the bad news, this is an Interference Engine. Kia recommends replacing the timing belt at the 105,000 Mile Service, how many miles do you have on your engine?
my wife was driving our 1998 kia sephia with the t8 dohc 16v engine in it when the timing belt broke, I talked to several mechanics about this engine being a interference motor or not before putting in the time to replace the belt and idlers. ALL told me it was an interferance engine and that it was 98% surely toaste. I spent a year saving up money to purchase a guarenteed under 10k milage motor for it and after a year I figured I would replace the timing belt and idlers in the motor I picked up to replace mine just to be on the safe side. When I got the belt and idlers I figured I might as well throw them in and at least try it before spending the money on a replacement engine. when I had it in and turned the key it fired immediately and ran great for 2 years and the timing belt broke again. I again replaced the belt and its runs great, I call bullshit on these mechanics and their trying to make money off this no tollerance bullshit!!! replace your belts and idlers and give it a try you might be surprised like i was and not be out of your car for over a year like I was because I believed what they told me. good luck
I actually just found out from the mechanic I go to that my engine is a non-interference so I am in the clear.
Well that's good news, I'll have to look into my information and see why it conflicts with your information. Thanks for the update.
