Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! That is definitely a scary experience and a very concerning situation. On your 2018 Jeep Renegade a sudden loss of throttle response that recovers on its own could be associated with a failing electronic throttle body or throttle position sensor. A faulty accelerator pedal position sensor is another strong possibility, as it works with the throttle body and an intermittent signal loss can cause exactly this kind of sudden power loss. It's worth noting that Jeep has issued several technical service bulletins and software updates for the Renegade that address throttle and stalling related issues, so having a shop check for any applicable updates is a smart first step. Given that this is a safety issue that could leave you in a dangerous situation while driving I’d strongly recommend having this diagnosed as soon as possible.
