Look at your owner's manual under "Starting and Operating". If you have 4WD with 4-Lo range there may be a way to temporarily keep the vehicle in neutral. For all other configurations, the manual says this isn't allowed. As far as the soap/water affecting the vehicle finish, it depends on the car washes themselves. Some chemicals are more designed to take off dirt than protect paint. One of the bigger things to be wary of are those automatic brushes or the attendant's drying towels scratching or putting swirl marks in the paint.
