Hello, the lack of coolant is not in and of itself enough to set a check engine warning light on. However, a lack of coolant could contribute to damage to some engine component that could indeed turn on that light to warn you of a problem. The oil change required is probably legitimate; miles is not the only thing monitored to determine the need for a change. Get the Jeep looked at by a trained skilled technician who can retrieve any set diagnostic trouble codes and determine by those codes a path to troubleshooting your concerns.
