cold starts, cranks but no start-if gas pedal depressed it fires right up.

If it starts with the gas pedal pressed all the way down the air fuel ratio is too rich. Perhaps a scan tool used from a cold start to see what the computer sees as the air and coolant temperature. See what the injector pulse duration is on a scan tool. Perhaps the fuel out of the injector does not atomize well due to deposits on back of the intake valves. It could be many things, unfortunately and without experiencing the problem first hand or being able to do some basic diagnostic tests its hard to say.

WOT (wide open throttle) is used to clear flood mode. check for leaky injectors, high fuel presure etc.
