What is your question?
Issue is with the Select Trac System of engaging and disengaging 4 wheel drive.I encounter problems engaging the Select Trac Full Time 4 wheel drive on the fly at about 35 mph. A grinding sound coming from both left and right rear tires...rear axle, that oscillated from the left rear tire to the right rear wheels, as I took foot off accelerator. Like the 4 wheel drive was having a hard time meshing or hubs locking in, in the rear. Also upon exiting the drivers side I smell a hot burning rubber smell from the left rear tire well, a sizzling sound emanating from said wheel well, I checked passenger side rear, no smell or sound. An additional issue once I finally get into what I think is 4 wheel full time dive engaged, by evidence of my traction on the 2 inches of snow or more, I have a hard time getting the transfer case to disengage to 2 wheel drive. It is anything less then fluid or "On the Fly" I'm out of space, I have many more details.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Better: Not trying to engage 4x4 mode. Worse: Trying to engage 4x4 mode
How long has your 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee had this problem?
Just purchased New Used from dealer, have limited warranty, probably 3wks

It would not be uncommon for there to be something wrong with the hubs or transfer case or other components of the 4 wheel drive shifting system. https://repairpal.com/repair-shops/jeep-repair-and-service-in-ithaca-new-york
