what are some reasons why i wouldnt have first gear anymore?

At first we thought it was low on transmission fluid. then we filled it, checked diff fluid that was fine. i have all other gears. First gear does not work. and it seems harder to get it to go when i hit the gas. my stepfather seems to think its an electrical issue. I dont know. it has 165k on it. been an amazing car since last march. never had this bad of a problem.

What makes this problem better or worse?
