In order to update the PCM software for your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee the repair shop will need to have a factory (Chrysler) scan tool and access to the Chrysler database for software updates. Some independent shops may have the capability but your best bet would be your local Chrysler dealer. Unless the vehicle is under warranty or the software update is related to a recall, you should expect to pay for the update.
