If you mean the Check Engine light is on a scan tool is needed to retrieve and then record the codes stored erase the codes and then see if they return and are actually valid. A scan tool resets the light disconnecting the battery also erases the codes but looses memory for the radio, anti theft or alarm if fitted.

you have the old oBD 1 system. retrieve the code and repair the problem. when the problem is repaired the light goes out by itself. by just erasing the code does not do anything for the problem. Roy
