Hello, It really depends on the scope of work you are wanting to take on. If you just want to read codes, reset your service light, and do other small tasks, this is ok. Jaguars are notorious for electrical issues, so I would rather have the ability to test body control systems more than I would want to reset my airbag light. In general, if you can't tell if the scanner will work for you, my advice is to start reading on what a scan tool can do. It really will blow your socks off once you realize the capabilities you posses just by having and knowing how to use a professional scan tool. Just be advised: Scan tools, even with enhanced OBD-II, rarely point you right to an issue. Instead, they give you an excellent understanding of what is happening in the system being serviced. The diagnosis comes with understanding what to do with that knowledge.
Thanks casey40510, I am new to the Jaguar world. I just didn't know what brand to look at. I agree I should get one that reads the electrical issues. I guess maybe I was looking for suggestions from you guys that have been around them. I hope it's ok to ask here. I don't need one that a professional uses but not one of the cheaper ones either. I work on my cars and trucks, just new to these and don't want to have to pay a shop something I can fix.
Sure, you're fine. I would still encourage lots of readings. Stick with known brands with a good warranty. There are so many of these. Basically, read up on top shelf professional tools, be honest with the scope of the projects you will take on, and decide on a reasonable price range. Once you know what tech is out there, you'll have a much better understanding of what you want. Also, once you know what tech exists, you'll see how a lot of these cheaper scan testers are nearly worthless.
Thanks, I will do some more research before I purchase one.
