What would cause a high pitched squeal when starting (cold start)

loose fan belt. it is loose and when it heats up, it shrinks and stops the noise. Roy

On my car I needed new belts.Now for my neibors jag he sprayed some {belt Dressing} on it and it,and the sqeeking is gone.

If not belts, it is likely to be the harmonic balancer and may need to be rebuilt - mine was 125 bucks from an outfit in Washington. took about a week.
