My doors won't lock automatically when I shift out of park or drive off.

I just took my car in for the same reason. At one point I had this option working then after a dead battery it stopped. My dealership said it needs to be set w the computer, however, now they are telling me this feature was not added until the 2009 make. I know this was working in my car at one point but now they cannot reset it. Is it true this is only avail for years 2009 and later?
