what are airbag inflators

Air bag inflators are the component within each air bag assembly that when charged with a command to deploy the air bag create a little explosion that deploys the bags to protect vehicle occupants. What is the "problem"? Some vehicles have a recall to replace inflators that may have been made without a desiccant material to absorb moisture. The presence of moisture in these affected inflators may cause over-pressurization of the air bags upon deployment under certain extreme circumstances, including extreme component age (over 10 years or more). Vehicles with these affected inflators are under manufacturer's recall. Check with your local Infiniti dealership and give them your VIN (vehicle identification number) to see if your vehicle is affected by the recall program, where it will be repaired at no charge to you. You should not continue to drive the vehicle for long with a safety recall -- it should be resolved as soon as possible.
