Car is throwing code with multiple misfires, we think weve tracked it to exhaust or csts, possibly precat, anyhow im wondering if i put in my code readings and whats been done so far if someone could brainstorm with me to identify the actual source of the problem. I think im getting close but im just not a mechanic.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Runs very rich, backfires, etc.

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. It is always helpful if you share information such as trouble codes so that we can give you some feedback. That said, If you have multiple misfires and trouble codes related to that, you need to resolve the misfire concern before you can think about exhaust or catalytic converters. This is because the exhaust and catalytic converters tend to fail because of excessive fuel going through your exhaust system when the engine misfires due to a spark issue. I suspect coil or spark plug issues. You could also have a base engine issue by which you would perform a compression test to determine if you have a concern.
