Hi - I am Dave, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Testing should use a diagnostic tool to check transmission fluid temperature to see what is being read. As far as the location of the sensor, it's inside the transmission oil pan. The lower radiator hose must be removed, the pan removed and the sensor inspected - wiring too - and replaced if needed.
