What is your question?
I've been driving this car for about 5-years and the recent fuel consumption is not normal. It's burning through fuel 2-3x faster. Even when the car is sitting idle is burning fuel fast. I started noticing it 4-5 months ago. Seems to be getting worse. Example: I'll drive 1-mile around town and it'll say I burned through 3-miles of gas. Never did this before. I don't think it's a fuel gauge problem because when it tells me it's about to run out ( Gas light comes on ), I'll go to the gas station and put the full 13 gallons back into it. So, it's definitely burning through the fuel. The indicators seem to be correct. Car seems to be shifting normally, so I don't believe it's a transmission issue. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! If your Veloster is burning through fuel at a rate that would make a gas station owner proud, but you’re not seeing any improvement at the pump, you’re right to be concerned. The rapid fuel consumption, especially at idle, suggests something more than just a gauge issue. A few possible culprits could be at play. It could be a faulty oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor, both of which help your car’s computer manage fuel efficiency. If either is sending incorrect information, your engine might be using more fuel than necessary. Another possibility is a leaking fuel injector, which could be dribbling fuel into the engine even when it shouldn’t be. Also, check for any noticeable drops in performance or strange smells, which could point to these issues. Given the symptoms, getting a diagnostic from a professional would be wise to pinpoint exactly what's making your Veloster so thirsty.
