What is your question?
My airbag light is now staying on all the time. In looking around it sounds like this is a sensor problem with the airbag/seatbelt and pretty serious. However, fixing it also sounds very expensive - $500 - $1000+ from what I can see - especially since it has to be done at the dealer. I don't trust them in general and know they are always expensive. Can anyone else fix it? Any advice? I don't particularly want to drive unsafely, but I also can't afford to spend $500 on the car now, let alone $1000. I'm not sure the Blue Book on the car is much more at this point.

Hello, check with a local repair shop near you. Air bag system repairs do not always need to be performed by a dealership. A well equipped repair shop near you can also assist. That said, not all dealerships (just like not all repair facilities) are worthy of your general lack of trust. Whether it's a dealership or local independent shop, both should be checked into to see how their reputation is, and will work to earn your trust as a client. Being RepairPal Certified is a great first step -- so check the list of local shops near you to reach out to.
