Check engine light is on

Hi! This is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! That dang pesky check engine light! You can have almost any parts stores connect to the ODBII port and read the code stored in the car's computer. The code that's pulled will give you an idea of where the fault lies but it's by no means a diagnosis. An example would be that if there's a code for an oxygen sensor, replacing it may not address the actual issue. Figuring out the root cause and going from there is imperative and will ultimately save time and money. Depending on your level of expertise it's often a good idea to have a shop take a look at it. They most likely have a more sophisticated scan tool. If you have any other questions feel free to call us at 877-913-1554! We'll be happy to find you a certified RepairPal shop in your area!
