What is your question?
2.7L, 6 cyl., auto, this vehicle was used to tow a pick-up truck up steep incline and then suddenly quit on the road. will not go into gear. what could have happened, its showing trans. fluid on dip stick, doesn't smell burnt. could pulling heavy load damage trans when engine is not affected? is there any thing I can try to confirm damage to trans., shop wants $400 to inspect trans. (please tell me it could be a sensor or cable or something minor!)

nope, you way overloaded it and blew the trans. the tear down is cheap but plan on spending about 2000 to fix it. Roy
It is important to change the timing belt on these engines if they break they do serious damage to the engine, These are pretty good vehicles not as strong as most Toyotas or Hondas but are usually good value for money.
thanks for reply and for refferencing www.hmaservice.com; I'll certainly be checking that site out. cheers
I was afraid of that, but thanks for quick reply. I noticed a lot of questions related to timing belt especially 4 cyl. This car history is unknown to me other than it needs trans. it has 260km, how can I tell if I should I change belt and would you recommend any other essential maintenance (besides the trans change?) I only paid $800 as is and I found a used trans. for $400. The car looks great other than the rear wiper is missing. Assuming every thing else is working fine, would you agree that it was a good deal? it will cost $500. to install trans. plus the belt maybe - I'm looking for some encouragement. thanks elizabet
