What is your question?
Hi! Recently, the warning sounds on my 2015 GMC Yukon XL started disappearing. By warning sounds I mean the sounds that chime when the car is started or when the turn signal is on. This happened once before, but then everything came back to normal. Then in the last week, this started occurring very frequently and now appears to be consistent. The radio can be played no problem. I also know that these warnings sounds are played through the left front speaker located under the dashboard. Just now I tested that speaker and while I can hear the radio through it, the warning sounds were very faint at first and then disappeared completely. I would greatly appreciate any help on this problem! Thank you very much!
What makes this problem better or worse?
There doesn't appear to be something that makes it better or worse. The problem is more consistent now, though
How long has your 2015 GMC Yukon XL had this problem?
Happened in the summer, then disappeared and began again in the last week.

Hello, This could be one of a few issues. The sensors for all of the warning systems on the vehicle report that status through the hi speed network that connects the systems on the vehicle. The data is received by the instrument cluster, body control module, or the airbag control module (sometimes more than one of those), and the signal to activate the warning chime is sent to the radio. This means that, depending on when the chime does not occur, it could be any one of these causing the malfunction. Testing will require a good working knowledge of these systems, and should start right where you started and work backwards.
Hi there! Thank you for your reply! It would seem that lost sound applies to all warning signs and tick-tock signal sounds, equally. I feel like this could be a loose wire, maybe? Do you have any knowledge about the A11 Radio X1 - X3 connectors? They seem to be responsible for all sounds coming into the radio. Thanks
I don't have a reference for A11, but the X1 and X3 connectors have multiple possible functionality depending on the features your vehicle came with. The big thing I missed the first time is that the turn signal tick is impacted as well, so the issue is most likely between the body control module and radio. The issue is, the BCM diagrams are showing data lines to the LAN, but not the purpose of those lines. It may be easiest to backprobe the data-lines at the radio (X1: position 13 and 14) and find continuity between there and the body control module connector. This has to be done anyways to ensure that the wire harness is not the issue.
Thanks again for the reply! Where would I find those connectors? And by probes you mean the special probes listed in the diagrams? Is there way to check those without the probes? Thanks
Those are the connectors that are plugged into the back of the radio and the other will be one of the few plugged into the body control module. For that, it would be best to get a copy of the service manual so you can identify all the pins in front of you at once. Backprobes are just metallic and thin to slide into the back of the connector against the wire. They keep you from having to stab the wire, and you can test the signal (or continuity in your case) with the connectors plugged into the units. You can just use paperclips... works fine. I would suggest googling a video of backprobing to make sure you have a good picture of the operation.
Thanks a lot. I see. You don't happen to have a copy of the service manual, by any chance?
The best way to go for the service manual is alldatadiy.com. AllData is one of the best out there for pros and consumers.
Looks like there isn't an option for GMC there. Anyway, I'll just have to look around. Thanks
