Why does my yukon not start after going to the store and then i have to jump it?

After going to the store I get into my yukon and it wount start after trying to start it a few times the battery dies and i have to find someone to jump me and then on my way home itll die out on me and ither it wount start again to where i need a jump or itll start again but ill have to park for a few minutes and then try to start it again to get home. At red lights i have to keep the gas pressed a little bit so it wount die on me and even then at times itll still die on me and hopefully i can get it started again to go. I have to put it into 1 to start off and then shift it to 2 and then 3 and then D to get enough "power" to get to the speed i need to be in for traffic.
What makes this problem better or worse?
