If the noise from the a/c compressor in your 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 goes away when the a/c is off then the fault would be with the compressor, not the clutch. In any case, most repair shops will replace the complete compressor assembly for a failed clutch or an internal compressor failure. If the compressor is indeed causing the noise, replacing the a/c orifice tube and possibly the accumulator would be a good idea because the failed compressor may have pumped metal debris in to the system. Debris left in the system could damage the new compressor.
