Sputtering & loss of power

What is your question?

When going up grade the engine will start sputtering and I will lose power. The Check Engine Soon light goes on. I usually pull over and turn the engine off for 15 - 20 minutes and will sometimes resume driving okay and the check engine light eventually goes off.

The first step would be to check the code(s) stored in the Engine Control Module of your 1996 GMC Savanna 1500. This code(s) should give some direction to go in diagnosing this problem. It sounds like it may be a fuel supply issue but there is no way to know for sure without proper diagnoses.
