I am assuming it is cutting off the fuel does all of the info above relate to the entire column being replaced ??? Assuming the column is in perfect working order I have the security light come on solid and then after a few seconds begins to flash.. I have read through the above info and so far my attempts have not been fruitfull....

did you put the lock cylinder from the old column into the new one?? you have a security issue from the sounds of it. Roy
It sounds like your truck is in the Theft mode. It will allow the truck to start then shut off right away. you will have to get it reset with a Tech II scan tool, From the dealer. or a locksmith with a scan tool to reprogram the keys to the new key reader.
Thanks for the info guys , I got it it was an entire new column and the security light was flashing so it is in learn mode at that point I turned the key on and left it for ten min and it linked with the vats system that was all it needed and she cranked over and is running great .......... I miss old / basic cars =)
i have a 98 jimmy that does the same thing off and on and ive replaced a lot of electrical stuff for nothing. On an episode of trucks a couple of weeks ago they installed a v8 in a 98 blazzer that did the same thing when they were done. The machanic said it was the anti theft system,it need to be hooked to a computer and reprogramed to disable the theft system to keep it from shutting off fuel system. I havent tried it yet but plan on it soon as i have the money. Hope that helps ya.
No there wasn't one some one had stole the vehicle and had driven a screwdriver half way through the column , but I got it thanks..... If the security light is flashing it is trying to learn the new lock cylinder and magnet in this case the whole new column and can take as much as 3 ten min sessions of leaving the key on while it learns
the learning procedure would have been next. glad we helped you. Roy
Yep Was Good in fo ... =) I was wondering if I can pick your brains again... 1998 GMC Jimmy same vehicle. Performed an oil change prior to starting the vehicle in 6 years sludge looked more like play dough being pressed out =( but new filter ,new oil and a motor flush ran for time period suggested and it was doing well no knocks / pings... until near the end... It is registering oil pressure, higher than at normal idol I have done the second oil change all new and same result ??? I feel the pump is working but that the oil isn't getting through.. it has the remote filter that is filling up but after that I think it goes to the oil cooler and back to the motor.... Where would you suggest the blockage would occur if there is one or what the real problem may be if I am not correct in my deduction ????
