my jimmy would run real good then start running bad: lose power, backfire, go dead. I could for a while disconnect the battery for a while and it would act right for a time.I could be driving and it would mess up and then start acting right again. the last time I drove it, it would not crank until the next day. I got it home and it has not cranked since. All of this was happening after it got to operating temp. I have since put in a fuel filter and pump, ignition coil, distributor module, rotor button cap and distributor cap.

I am having the exact same problem with my 96 GMC 5.7. Parts replaced and thrown at it with no sign of improvement: plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, can shaft position sensor, crank shaft position sensor, coil packs, coolent temp sensor. fuel pump, EGR, Ignition control modual. It does not have cats as it is an after market exhaust and cats have been removed. What is left?
