What is your question?
I have a 1993 GMC G3500 Rally extended van in need of a right front caliper replacement. However, in decades of changing my own front pads, this is the first time I've seen a caliper without slide pins. Instead, this one slides in its mounting bracket and has a clip on the rearward edge like none I've ever seen. I've loosened up the caliper on the rotor, removed the small bolt holding down the clip, and nothing I've ever tried can compress that bow-shaped spring flat enough to release it from the bracket. I put it back together and put that job on hold until I know how not to damage anything getting it off. Even the little bit of effort I've tried, I limited to only the caliper itself and only the one I need to replace anyhow. Some sort of special tool or clever procedure needed?

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. The setup on your G3500 is a bit different than a standard caliper. It sounds like the caliper is held in place by a spring clip that acts as a retaining mechanism for the caliper bracket. To remove it, you must typically compress the spring clip using a flat tool like a large flathead screwdriver or a caliper tool that can apply even pressure. Once the spring is compressed, the clip should pop out from the bracket, allowing you to remove the caliper. Be sure to take your time and avoid applying excessive force that could damage the bracket.
