the gear selector stopped showing and the RPM and speed meter all stopped workin

When these stopped working the transmission stopped down shifting. I can manual shift but it takes off in second gear. This happed once before and I only had to restart the truck to fix the problem. But that doesn't work this time. I have been told trans speed sensor or engine module may be the problem. Does any one know?

The issue does sound like the vehicle speed sensor (trans speed sensor). When they go the computer can't register rpms or speed and does not know when to shift, so it doesn't. Also, you get a loss of display on the speedometer so, your issue is most likely the trans. speed sensor.
