Was driving about 40 mph and grinding sounds came from under hood.

What is your question?

The above lasted about 5 seconds. During this time, the tach and speedometer pegged high. Has happened twice, about 10 minutes apart. Driven for another hour and could not duplicate. Alternator is good, belts are tight.
