The above lasted about 5 seconds. During this time, the tach and speedometer pegged high. Has happened twice, about 10 minutes apart. Driven for another hour and could not duplicate. Alternator is good, belts are tight.
How long has your 1995 Geo Tracker had this problem?

Hello, I am not sure why the speedometer would peg high -- if the transmission lost engagement, I could see where the grinding noise and the tachometer would peg high. You'll have to have someone with diagnostic skill experience this and weigh in.
