Why does the speedometer cable keep braking at the transmission instantly?

Every time we put a new speedometer cable on (3 cables so far ) and start the geo it breaks at the transmission. Why?

check to see if the speedometer is seized and will not allow the cable to turn-the driven end is at the trans, if something is binding the rotation that is where it will snap
