transmission acting funny.

Mine did same thing when I first bought it 2010 changed auto trans fluid & filter fixed the problem til recently after my 21 yr old borrowed it. Now not shifting into higher gear as though in neutral. Gonna have trans fluid changed again if that doesnt help gonna do $800 trans rebuild.

I was having a similar issue with my 1996 Tracker, replaced the fluid, modulator, checked the TV cable adjustment but same thing, wouldn't shift when cold. I finally pulled the tail housing off and checked the governor, The big piston in the governor was stuck. Took the governor apart, cleaned it up with cleaning solvent, took steel wool to the pistons and cleaned them put it all back together and it is working fine now. Also not there is a small screen under the governor when you remove it, pull this out gently and clean it to make sure it is not clogged up. Hope this helps.
