Hi - I am Dave, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. This vehicle could have had a six speed automatic transmission or a continuously variable transmission. – CVT. Unfortunately, I don't know which one you have. A CVT does not exhibit "shifting" like an automatic transmission does. It maintains a power band for performance at engine speed like you're describing. However, you could have a throttlebody or an engine performance concern if you have a CVT. Too much guessing without more specific information available. Seek guidance from a trusted local shop near you.
