When i plug in an extension cord to block heater it trips the gfci outlet. any ideas?

The block heater itself may be internally compromised. You may want to check it for continuity.
thanks. along with the link you gave the last guy i might be able to check that myself.
try a plug that has bigger than 35 or with no safe fuse on outlet
