If the Check Engine light/Service Engine Soon light illuminates while you are driving, the car's on board computer sees a fault in the engines management system that is causing an excess amount of pollutants to be emitted from your car what ever the fault code stored it is likely to be related to your truck failing to accelerate.. This could result in engine damage if left neglected. Some problems that can cause the Check Engine light to stay on may take two "drive cycles' to complete before illuminating the Check Engine Light. Diagnostic codes are stored in the vehicle's computer and can be retrieved using a scantool that communicates with the computer in your car. We have in our Repairpal website an encyclopedia with in depth articles about computer, and computer control systems, emission and driveability problems. http://repairpal.com/check-engine-light. Have the truck scanned for trouble codes and investigate the codes stored.
Thank you very much for your prompt reply. The code retrieved on Monday was for Throttle Positioner Sensor - replaced w/ Motorcraft part, drove about 50 miles and loss acceleration again and engine light came on. Towed to nearest town. The code retrieved on Tuesday was the same. A Napa part was put in thinking the Motorcraft was defective. Mechanic test drove and said it was fine. When I picked the truck up, I drove across the street for lunch. I backed out of the parking space and put in drive, no acceleration and engine light came on again so I limped it back to repair shop. Why would this code show and no others? Could it be the software programs were not complete programs at these 2 repair shops?
