the gear shift in park won't start the truck

What is your question?

i checked the linkage and cable looks o.k , the shift lever has some slop in it .Is the problem in the steering colum?it will start in neutral.

You'll have to check the shift linkage because if it will start in neutral then the neutral safety switch is working But the linkage isn't lining up properly with the neutral safety switch when its in park.
