Hello, The odometer, unfortunately, is integral to the instrument cluster. You will likely need to remove it and have it repaired, and I don't recommend attempting the repair yourself because the instrument cluster controls a great many things for your vehicle. i.e. it is not just an instrument cluster. Repair is cheaper than replace 10 times out of 10, but you'll have to google around to find a service.
This is a very common problem on the F-150's.The Digital Odometer Blacks out, meaning one minute you see your miles and the next minute the miles are gone, then you want to beat the crap out of your dash to make it come back on! I fixed my 2000 F-150 at 289,000 miles,it now has 341,000 miles on it and has not blinked ONCE! After I fixed mine,I called the Ford Dealer Service Dept and they said "NO FIX" and that I needed to bring it to them for a new cluster plus PATS keys needed reprogrammed before my truck would start again(FALSE)! What I didn't tell them was that I had already fixed it,so I just listened to their BS Story! copy and paste the links below and watch video, read, check them out,it's not that bad to repair. It takes 10 cents worth of solder and a couple hours of your time to do this! There are 9 pins,i added a little solder to each pin even though the video and forums say just 1 or 2,I did them all to keep from doing this repair twice. any questions, post here. https://www.f150forum.com/f75/97-03-odometer-fix-93814/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxGgqPNseTk
