I bought a used 2004 f150 Heritage this year, and some of the parts on it are from a 2003 model! The vin tells me it's a 2004 model. Did Ford make a Heritage model in 2003? Could it have been put together at the end of 2003 but had a 2004 label put on it? It has a 4.2L V6. Did Ford put a 4.2L V6 in a 2004? The front bumper is from a 2004 but the assembly where the struts and shocks fit has a 2003 model configuration. The hub has 5 studs and the hub ring is 3-3/8 wide. Doesn't the 2004 hub have 6 studs?

The 2004 Heritage model is basically a continuation of the "old" body style while the new style rolled out in 2004 also. It would make sense that many of the parts are basically carry overs from the 2003 model. You're mixing up the 2004 Heritage model and the 2004 "new" style model. Only the Heritage model had the 4.2L V6 for 2004. It returned again in the "new" version for the 2005 model year.
