What is your question?
I have a 2001 ford explorer sport and I was told I have a rear main seal leak and requires removal of the engine, can you tell me how much it would cost and is it worth fixing this. I am not quite sure where to take this so any suggestions of which I can have this service or even get a second opinion would be greatly appreciated.
What makes this problem better or worse?
nothing
How long has your 2001 Ford Explorer Sport had this problem?

Hello, crankshaft rear main oil seal replacement doors not require removal of the gene. It requires removal of the transmission - if in fact this is the source of the oil leak you are experiencing. Oil leaks can come from multiple areas - and sometimes they can seem like a rear main seal leak when that part is intact. Sometimes the oil pan gasket is leaking. Sometimes the leaks come from up above and leak down in that area behind the engine. I would recommend a second opinion, cleaning the area of leakage and adding engine oil dye to be certain of the source of leak before attempting repair. www.repairpal.com/estimator Check there for usual estimates of component repairs. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
