how to test if ac compressor to see if the dash switch is working

Disconnect the ac clutch connector and hook a volt meter to the 2 pins on the connector that is on the engine harness. Turn the truck to the on position turn the ac on to max cold and check for voltage. If there is aprox 12v replace the ac compressor for an open ac clutch coil.
